What does your pipeline number mean in practice?

The reach figure at the top is your marketing budget's real job description. If you need to reach 500,000 professionals to recruit 2,000 members, you now know the scale of awareness activity required before a single membership conversation begins.

Awareness and reach

These are the professionals who encounter your association through advertising, social media, partnerships, events, and search. Reaching them does not mean converting them. It means they know you exist.

Subscribers and followers

This group has raised their hand. They follow your content or subscribe to your newsletter. The 5% benchmark is realistic for most associations. Higher rates are possible with strong content strategy and consistent value.

Engaged non-members

These professionals have attended your conference, joined a free webinar, or downloaded a resource. This is your warmest pipeline. If conversion here is low, the problem is usually the membership value proposition, not the marketing.

New members

The 40% conversion rate from engaged non-member to member is ambitious. For well-positioned associations with clear value and active follow-up, it is achievable. For many, 15–25% is more typical at this stage.
